Chapter 1 Critical thinking

An issue is an important question that is in dispute(disputable). Different people may have different views over an issue. They often try to persuade others to agree with them.

Argument = Reason + Conclusion

An argument is a claim that people put forward and defend with reasons. The claim that is supported is called the conclusion of the argument.

Are these arguments?

1.It is cold in the classroom.

2.It is sunny today,therefore the chief executive should buy a new tie.

3.You should buy this jacket.

4.You should sleep early tonight because a good sleep will help tomorrow's exam.

5.Mr. Chan reminds us that a balanced diet and regular exercises help to keep us healthy

6.This shop should be moved to another place because it rained in the few days and the sales volume was unsatisfactory.
